Massage & Bodywork FAQ's
Before You Arrive
If you have never experienced professional massage, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, or energy or sound healing before, you may have some questions about what to expect or what you should do to prepare beforehand. Below are some suggestions for preparing yourself for bodywork, what you can expect from us as licensed healthcare professionals, and general aftercare advice.
What to Wear
Wear clothes that you are comfortable in for before and after your session.
- For Myofascial Release and Manual Lymphatic Drainage, it is recommended that men wear underwear and/or gym shorts for treatment, and women wear a sports bra and gym shorts or a two-piece bathing suit. Please do not apply lotion or moisturizer before an MFR or MLD session.
- Swedish and Therapeutic Massage sessions are performed best when done on bare skin, but we always recommend you disrobe to your comfort level so that you can have the best experience possible.
- Energy and Sound Healing sessions are done with the client fully clothed.
- Public sound baths are performed in the classroom, with attendees laying on yoga mats. Warm clothes are recommended, as public sound bath sessions are an hour in length and you may get chilly. Yoga mats, blankets, and buckwheat pillows are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
Hydration
Staying hydrated is important for overall health, and it is especially important after getting body work done. Please make sure to stay properly hydrated before and after your session, particularly if you are coming in for lymphatic drainage.
Sobriety
As performing massage and body work on anyone who is under the influence is highly frowned upon and not recommended by health professionals, we respectfully request that you remain sober for our session. If you are visibly intoxicated when you arrive, your appointment will be canceled and you will be liable for the full cost of the treatment that was to be provided.
Professionalism
As Licensed Massage Therapists, you can expect that we will be clean, courteous and professional in appearance and behavior. As our client, we hope and expect that you will treat us with the same courtesy. Any illicit or sexually suggestive remarks or advances will result in immediate termination of the session. You will be responsible for the full fee for the scheduled appointment and will not be able to re-book any further sessions with Ouroboros Therapeutic Arts in the future. In the case of solicitation, the authorities will be notified as will our professional colleagues.
Scope of Practice
While the benefits of massage and bodywork include relaxation, therapeutic, recovery, and medical purposes, please note that it is not within our scope of practice to diagnose illnesses and/or ailments, or mental health concerns. Myofascial release, massage therapy, and energy and sound healing sessions are not substitutes for medical care or therapy.
If you believe you are suffering from a physical or mental ailment, please contact your primary doctor or mental health professional. If you do not have a mental health counselor, we recommend Demire Coffin-Williams, LMHC, of Holistic Wellness and Recovery. Please visit his website for more information.

Aftercare
Each session will be different, so aftercare suggestions may vary from session to session. Generally, we recommend healthy movement that feels good for your body, drinking plenty of water to maintain hydration levels, and making sure you're getting proper rest. For personalized suggestions, speak to your therapist after your appointment has been completed.
Esthetics FAQ's
Important Information: Skin Services & Medical Advice
While our skin services are designed to enhance your skin’s health and appearance, it’s essential to understand that esthetic treatments are not a replacement for medical care, diagnosis, or advice from a doctor or dermatologist. For clients with skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, or other medical concerns, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider prior to receiving any facial treatments.
Certain skin treatments may not be suitable during pregnancy, including some chemical exfoliants and certain facial modalities. Additionally, treatments such as microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, and chemical peels may require clients to discontinue the use of specific topicals, like retinol or acne medication, for at least a few days before treatment.
We encourage all clients to discuss any health concerns, medications, or pregnancy status with your esthetician as well as your healthcare provider prior to booking an appointment to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for your unique needs. Your health and safety are our top priority!

Skin Enhancements FAQ's

Yes, we recommend that you arrive with a clean face. If you have makeup on, we will gently remove it as part of the facial treatment.
2. What should I expect during my facial?
You can expect a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Your esthetician will begin with an in-depth skin analysis to determine your skin type and any specific concerns. Then, a customized facial will be performed using products tailored to your skin's needs. Depending on the facial, the treatment may include cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, masks, and moisturizing.
3. Can I get a facial if I have sensitive skin or active breakouts?
Yes, we customize each facial to your skin's needs, including sensitive skin or acne concerns. However, please inform your esthetician of any conditions or concerns you have so we can provide the best treatment for you.

5. Can I use my regular skincare routine during facial treatments?
We recommend discontinuing the use of harsh or active skincare products (like retinol or acne treatments) for at least 48 hours before your facial to allow for a more effective treatment. Other previous procedures and medications like Botox and Accutane may delay your receival of facial services for a longer period of time.
6. How often should I get a facial?
For best results, we recommend getting a facial every 4-6 weeks, depending on your skin’s needs. This helps to maintain a healthy, glowing complexion and addresses specific concerns such as dryness, aging, or acne.
7. Are there any side effects to dermaplaning or microdermabrasion?
Both treatments are non-invasive, but some clients may experience slight redness, dryness, or tingling after treatment. These effects are typically short-lived. If you experience irritation or discomfort that lasts longer, contact your esthetician for guidance.
8. Can I have a facial while pregnant?
Some treatments, such as those involving retinol or certain types of chemical exfoliants, may not be safe during pregnancy. We recommend consulting with your doctor and informing your esthetician about your pregnancy so we can provide appropriate treatment options.

Hair Removal FAQ's
1. Is waxing safe for sensitive skin?
Yes, waxing can be safe for sensitive skin. We utilize hard wax as opposed to soft wax, which is less sticky and does not adhere to the skin with as much grip, removing the hairs from the root while causing less trauma to the skin. However, it’s important to inform your esthetician of any skin sensitivities or conditions you have, so the treatment can be adjusted to minimize irritation.
2. How should I prepare for a waxing appointment?
Please ensure that the area to be waxed is clean and free of lotions or oils. We also recommend allowing your hair to grow to at least a quarter-inch in length (about the length of a grain of rice) to ensure the wax can properly grip and remove the hair.
3. Is waxing painful?
Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but most clients report a quick, manageable discomfort that subsides shortly after the treatment. Regular waxing can help reduce discomfort over time.
4. How long will the results of waxing last?
Waxing results typically last 4-6 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle. Regular waxing can also slow down hair regrowth over time.
5. Can I get waxed while pregnant?
Waxing is generally safe during pregnancy, but you may have heightened sensitivity. It's a good idea to check with your doctor before your appointment, especially if you are in your first trimester.
